1990 Australian Gallipoli Star (AJP)
1990 Australian Gallipoli Stars. This is one of only one thousand medals Gallipoli Stars ever produced. A two-piece / bi-metal - military service medal with an eight (8) pointed star and a 'silver' centre circle overlay. The original production batch of the 'two metal' Gallipoli Star was a total of one thousand (1000) medals. Up to 300 of the medals were allocated for presentation to the surviving veterans of Gallipoli in 1990 - the 75th anniversary year of the Landing at Anzac (1990).
The Veterans attending the ANZAC service at ARI BURNU (Dawn Service) and later at LONE PINE (GALLIPOLI) wore this medal on their blazers along with their other WW1 entitlement of medals. After the presentation to veterans, the remaining seven hundred (700) medals were sold to recover some of the costs associated with the project. This is one of those original medals and not one of those 300 medals marked "Collectors Items" which were stuck to replace those presented to the veterans and assist in cost recovery. This medal simply has the initials 'A.J.P' inscribed on the reverse side.
